Global Business Development Manager – UK based


This is an opportunity to join the leading, international Marine Consultancy of Van Ameyde in the midst of an exciting and rapid period of expansion. We are looking for someone to become our Global Business Development Manager who will have proven success, ideally in a marine environment and who can take our Group forward within our specialist, niche industry. Our brands include Van Ameyde Marine, McAuslands, Krogius, Seasia, MLC, Sparks and others. We are currently around 100 specialists located in 17 countries.

Business development is currently undertaken by the individual entities with some crossover in place. With you as our pioneering Business Development Manager we want to see this combined into one offering so that our global ambitions are realised and you will have the autonomy to mould the role as you see fit to get the desired results.

The rewards you shall reap for helping us achieve growth will be both financial, through a lucrative salary and a bonus based on increased profitability, benefits and a defined career path. You will ultimately position yourself for both internal and external recognition, acclaim and advancement to Board level.

Though demands are high support will be provided to ensure that you are able to perform at the highest level. Across the Group, we operate in a unique, relaxed, family orientated culture – where the employees are the focus; we want you to feel at home and appreciated. There will be the usual add-on benefits that a high-end position like this demands together with an extremely competitive base salary in the range of £75,000 to £100,000.

The position will be predominantly based in the UK with frequent attendances in London required so you will likely be within commuting distance of the City. (An EV will be provided) You could be WFH, in the City, at any of our UK offices or indeed throughout our entire global network. This is an opportunity to create the job you’ve always wanted.

About the role:

The right applicant won’t need telling what the role entails but, in essence, as our Global Business Development Manager you will be directly identifying, developing and obtaining business relationships at all levels and across all continents which results in increased visibility and business turnover from our industry sectors which include Marine Consultancy & Surveying, Renewables, Engineering, Loss Prevention, Offshore, Project Cargo amongst others.

Our clients are drawn from all areas of the marine industry and include P&I Clubs, ship owners/charterers, hull&machinery underwriters, cargo underwriters, lawyers, freight forwarders, OEMs and government bodies.

  • Performing a wide range of activities to positively position the Company, its brand, its products and capabilities.
  • Build and implement a business strategy plan.
  • Communicate the company’s strengths and ambitions to existing/potential new clients via various marketing activities.
  • International travel to attend meetings with clients and relevant industry events, exhibitions, conferences and key networking events, cultivating potential new business contacts, relationship building and networking with existing clients, suppliers and customers.
  • Produce regular updates to the Group MDs
  • Help plan and produce annual events, exhibitions, conferences and networking with existing marketing team

What we’re looking for:

You already know what we need and will probably tell us more than we are asking for. However, by way of outline, you will have proven B2B field sales experience, be self-motivated and comfortable working within a target driven environment.

Able to use your consultative sales approach to secure new clients and build relationships with existing clients. You have proven ability to utilise a variety of new business development lead generation approaches, from speculative calling to presenting to a room of industry experts and decision-makers, able to tailor your approach for different audiences. You will have an engaging communication style, able to build authentic and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will ideally have a working knowledge of the marine sector although assistance and guidance will be provided. Above all, what you will need is passion and energy for the opportunity, curiosity and an appetite to learn and develop personally along with the group.
