Stephen is a Master Mariner specialising in Marine Warranty and Marine Operations and has forged a broad interaction with the Insurance Industry, Infrastructure, Oil and Gas Operators, Renewables Developers, Ports and Vessel Owners and Operators. He drives strategic development of new products and industry support packages.

Recent experience has seen wide engagement in the delivery of solutions to the onshore and offshore transmission, distribution, renewables and thermal units. He is an advocate of early risk management with developed skills in supply chain delivery, climatic change, cyber risk, digitalisation and the recognition of energy as a system and has supported clients with technology qualification and development of broad risk management models. Driving a holistic perspective, he advocates the benefits and development towards integrated solutions that combine and simplify project delivery, examples being provision of third-party assurance services such as Class, Verification, Marine Warranty and Inspection. Recent focus areas have included risk management.

A strong communicator and presenter, he has provided extensive training courses on the subject of third party risk management and is a regular presenting at Lloyds, Industry Conferences and In house for clients.

Having driven a variety of vessels in his earlier career, he has spent significant periods at sea and has worked on home trade, bulk carriers, oil and gas and renewables projects as well as within the Royal Navy. He remains passionate about the role of the Marine Warranty Surveyor, is a former Chairman of the Society of Marine Warranty Surveyors (SOMWS) and still sits on the board regularly advising on best practice for Marine Warranty Service (MWS) engagement.
