Technical Quality Expert – The Netherlands
Who are we?
At Van Ameyde Marine, we are a leading maritime surveying and consultancy firm with strategically located offices in The Netherlands and Belgium. As part of an international network, we offer extensive expertise in the maritime and transport sectors.
Our Bunker Quality Dispute Team focuses on investigating and assessing fuel quality, technical problems and disputes related to bunker deliveries worldwide. Thanks to our in-depth technical knowledge and independent position, shipowners, insurers and fuel suppliers around the globe rely on Van Ameyde Marine for expert analysis and objective advice.
What will you as a Technical Quality Expert?
As a Technical Quality Expert, you act as the link between engineering, quality, and dispute resolution within the maritime fuel industry. You will investigate the quality of delivered fuels, assess claims and damage cases, and analyse the causes of possible engine issues or system contamination.
You will work both onboard vessels and in the office, where you prepare reports and liaise with shipowners, bunker suppliers, insurers and opposing experts.
What do you bring to the table?
We are looking for an experienced marine engineer (living in Belgium or Netherlands) with a strong technical background and a keen interest in fuels and fuel systems.
You also have:
- A higher vocational (HBO) or equivalent level of education, such as a Maritime Officer degree;
- Experience as a marine engineer in the merchant navy;
- Knowledge of marine fuels – both conventional and new, cleaner alternatives (e.g. biofuels, LNG);
- Understanding of fuel systems onboard ships and experience with fuel handling, storage, and treatment;
- Knowledge of the ISO 8217 standard and other relevant fuel specifications;
- Excellent report writing skills in English (Dutch is an advantage);
- The ability to think strategically, analytically, and proactively;
- A diplomatic and professional attitude, especially when dealing with multiple stakeholders.
*Experience in damage investigation, bunker disputes, or laboratory work is an advantage, but not a strict requirement – we provide full support and professional development.
What do we offer you?
- A competitive salary, based on knowledge and experience;
- A challenging and varied position for 32–40 hours per week;
- A company car, laptop, and phone;
- 24 vacation days per year (pro rata) with the option to purchase extra days;
- A profit-sharing bonus, depending on company results;
- Annual company outings and a friendly, informal team atmosphere;
- Plenty of room for professional growth and specialization within the maritime fuel sector.
