Krogius participated in the first Mercy Ships Race, held at Mariehamn, Åland, during the Maritime Day on 8 May 2019. The race was organized by Ålands Sjöfart in cooperation with Mercy Ships, a global charity founded in 1978.
In the Mercy Ships Race 297 runners and walkers participated, running or walking five or ten kilometers. Spirits were high on this glorious sunny day in Mariehamn, which would also host the Alandia Marine Insurance Seminar the day after. After the race, the participants enjoyed sauna and pool in typically Finnish tradition.
Krogius Group is pleased to join these fun activities, while contributing to a good cause. Managing Director Hanna Kivelä was one of the participants. Krogius sponsored the caps for the 30 WISTA – Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association, of which Hanna is a Board Member – participants as well. WISTA was formed in 1974 and is a global organization connecting over 3,000 female executives and decision makers from the maritime industry around the world.
Walter Dekkers of sister company Van Ameyde Marine also took part in the charity walk. In addition, he was invited as a speaker at the Alandia Marine Insurance Seminar, which was held the day after the Mercy Ships Race. In his speech, Walter focused on recent and future bunker quality problems.
As in recent years, Krogius had a stand at the Congress Center Alandica and it was good to meet with clients and colleagues from the industry. Which is why we are looking forward to next year’s event and the second Mercy Ships Race!
