During his time at sea he sailed on a variety of vessels including heavy lift vessels. Walter has lectured numerous times about fuel quality issues for training purposes as well as on conferences.

During the past five years only, Walter has handled over 300 bunker quality dispute cases. He has acted as a (Technical) Arbitrator, under a three Arbitrators Tribunal, in several bunker disputes, involving engine damage (UNUM: Dutch Arbitration) as well as expert witness in Arbitration cases.
