Immigration and NHS Invoicing Update
Our Crew Care Team would like to highlight recent changes to UK Immigration (Border Agency) guidelines in respect of Seafarers who receive medical treatment under the UK's NHS (National Health Service) system.
In most cases handled by the Crew Care Team in the UK, a Seafarer is treated as an Overseas Patient and on completion of medical assessment and treatment an invoice is issued initially in an individual's name.
UK authorities appear to be making attempts to improve levels of payment efficiency, which has resulted in some new legislation being introduced and may in turn impact potential ongoing Immigration status of a Seafarer attempting to enter or leave the UK.
Outstanding debts of over £1,000.00 for NHS treatment not paid within three months of invoicing may face immigration application (Visa) denial, potentially effecting UK crew changes. Debts exceeding £500.00 must also be settled within two months of invoicing to avoid potential immigration consequences.
